Book blurb:

Science would have us believe that we are nothing but cell upon cell. I disagree. We are made up of stories. The stories we hear from our mothers, the ones we tell our daughters. The tales we share with sisters and friends. The ones we never say out loud, but are heavy on our minds and run like a fever in our blood.

There are a multitude of great divides between us; race, religion, cultures, the way we dress, the languages we speak, but the stories we tell bridge us together in the universal tongue of smiles, tears, pain and laughter. They remind us that, as women, we’re all chasing similar fairy-tales.

This book is a call to celebrate the bridges, delight in our stories and to focus on the joy in our lives right now, rather than racing behind the happily-ever-after. That will come in it’s own time.

Poetry doesn’t need to rhyme every time. It needs to resonate throughout your bones, heed your conscious and shook you to the core so that you take a deep breath after every read, grasping every little element limned on the pages and this book gave me the exact sentient. Even though I’m more into complex poetries but I can never say no to those verged in few lines that are relevant enough to lure me into their own oblivion.

‘The Octopus Curse’ is a collection of experiences more of memoirs based on melancholy, old-school romance, heartbreaks, self-love, feminism, and whatnot. I utterly adore the after effect that each poem can have on someone if a person holds patience and grabs each verse well.

Also, the enticing cover, elegant illustrations of henna hands and stunning patterns carved on each page need additional attention in this book. I just can’t get enough of its beauty. It needs a heap of strength and valor to inscribe one’s emotions and endures into pages and give the whole world to read the same and I truly appreciate @salma.farook for her grit and to bring this gem into existence.
